Niah Cave Adventure
Wednesday, September 6th, 2006Yes! So proud we finally explored ONE of the caves in Sarawak! *applause!*
Freaking tired, but very good experience..
Last Wed, we wanted to go to Lambir National Park & Miri Crocodile Farm.
But then, we wanted to try something more fun. So we chose Niah instead!
2 hours drive from Miri, we reached there at about 1pm..
Raymond and Hiew drove. On the way, we stopped by…
There’s a pet shop at the end of the food court.. So, we jacoon KL and KK people.. had some laughs..
Snakes, rabbits, iguanas, mice, hamsters, weird lookin fishes, eels.. U name it, they got it!
This is a HUGEE weird looking "Sleeping Eel"… Was so tempted to scream at it…
Joshua’s favorite "Smiling Catfish".. Cute huh! And dis is YH’s Best Friends, snakes!
This is my Favorite! Don’t mind keeping one! It’s direct-translation from cantonese, "waterfish"… But.. I didn’t know I even look like it. Hehe. [edited by May] Never know I can look so silly.
Okay, enuf of weird animals.
Then we headed off to Niah National Park. After all the registering etc, the six of us were darn excited for the journey!
[Clockwise: Hiew, Josh, Me, May, Gaston, Raymond]
First, we had to take the speedboat.. Wee!!! Butttt.. It’s only across the river. Cheh!
Everyone was restless, ‘bersemangat’ !
See how excited Ray is… =)
We were like Waaa.. Wooo.. Aahhh.. Jumping ere and there… Even the "mini" caves amused us..
Gonggoks mating..! They’re all over the place I tell you!! *yuckzzzz*
The cave’s beautiful… Amazing…
Still not THAt tired.. We were determined to reach the last stop, the "Painted Cave".. Which is like 4km plus more… So up and down the stairs.. walk walk walk…
This scene is like those in the movies.. Scary. Anyone watch "The Descent"? A horror show with monsters in caves.. Yah, it looks like that! But think Niah monsters not interested in us..
Okay, MAYBE we’re kinda tired already.. Look at Ray’s face.. Aih. But longgg way more! Where’s the Painted Cave! !@#$^?$!
At one point of the journey, there are no pics.. Cause it’s pitch BLACK! Really really dangerous. And we smart asses, had only 1 torch light. Luckily 2 of them had hi-tech handphones as torchlights. Real real dark.. The path was.. Only wooden planks, no railings.. Not wide, quite narrow. Only 2 person can squueze in.. If i were to push someone down, they’ll sure DIE. And of course, stairs.. Creepy man. They should do sumthin about it..
After the DARK walk.. We FINALLY reached the Painted Cave.. But to our disappointments… It’s like shittt! Pure crap I tell you… Only an area which was fenced up.. I can barely see a thing. Painting, my ass. If i close my eyes and paint, I can paint better than that… After alllll the hard tiring journey.. We made our way back to the starting point… Sigh…
The way back, we took another path.. Wanted to visit "Rumah Chang", the Long House!.. But the path was SUPER longggg and BORINGGGGG.. slippery unstable woods to walk on.. Aih! When we finally reached Rumah Chang, we were quite amazed.. It was as if, they lived in a world of their own. The families were bathing in the river… They have their own school inside… Own football field.. I wonder how often they get out from here. 5km walk through the jungle to get out!
After that, we made our way back out… Bye-bye Cave..
4 hours, 10km walk.. Great experience, won’t mind doing it again =)
